This site has been repurposed more times than I care to remember; as a personal site, a wedding site, a blog, a photo gallery, a Wordpress sandbox etc. It even spawned a number of subdomains (1, 2), some of which are still active. All of these ventures just took up way too much of my time. For the past few years I have been using Wordpress software to manage this site. Not that I am, or want to be a ‘blogger’, but because I think Wordpress is a great CMS platform as well. As I age, and my priorities change I have less and less time to document my life. This does not mean I plan to stop leaving a digital breadcrumb. I just found a different set of tools that make it less time consuming.
That said, I plan on using this site as an aggregator of all these other tools. As a ‘web guy’ I am always chasing down and trying out the latest web app clamoring for viral domination. The sites and tools I aggregate will probably change over time. Here are a few of the places you will find me online and some of the life streams you will find consolidated here:
- Brightkite is a location based social network. Every comment or photo posted is tied to a physical location. My posts are literally plotted and timestamped on a map.
- Last.fm keeps track of all the music I listen to. Collecting this data reveals trends in my evolving musical interests and can be used to inform me of local concerts and other bands I might be interested in.
- Picasaweb is for photos. Tried the flickr thing, but I think it has major usability issues. I use this for creating galleries of events. You’ll find more pictures of random sightings on Brightkite.
- del.icio.us is a collection of all the websites and web pages I find useful. They are all tagged accordingly.
- twitter is my life stream and is an aggregator of sorts itself. You’ll notice some redundancy in my Twitter stream and some of the other social networking sites I use.
- 12 Seconds is a new one for me. It allows me to quickly and easily upload short videos from my cell phone. I was using Vimeo for awhile, but my cell phone posts often got lost in the ether.
- Facebook is Facebook. You either “book it” or you don’t.
- FriendFeed is a social web aggregator. It consolidates most of the activity on the sites above.
