Hans gets out of his high chair.In acknowledgment of our individual family obligations on Thanksgiving Day every year, my great friend Hans Winkel created an annual event that takes place on the Friday after Thanksgiving that is reserved for the kids that are near and dear to us. Despite having attended almost 10 of these events, the clan has never officially found a name for this holiday of holidays. (more…)

Snow covered boots.Nancy and I were lucky enough to be invited to her cousin David’s wedding in Breckenridge, CO. Despite some minor altitude sickness, I wanted to get in as much hiking out here as I possibly could. I took our rented Pathfinder to the nearest ski shop and picked up a topo map of the area. The owner recommended I head up to a place called Francie’s Cabin on the Crystal Trail just south of town. (more…)
