This was my first Cormac McCarthy. It took me a bit to get used to his unique writing style (no quotes, run-on sentences, etc) but his ability to paint vivid pictures of such a desolate landscape was phenomenal. The pace of the book was slow, yet suspenseful, making it hard to put down. I found myself anticipating the duo’s next discovery of dissolution or salvation. The book was a good vocabulary builder, too. McCarthy is a master of the English language. I had a dictionary by my side the entire read. I’ll never call a life preserver anything but a Mae West again! The ending was a little convenient, but was redeemed by the moving and poetic closing paragraph.
