Meeting Leo

Nelson and Alissa Geis stopped by for a visit today and introduced us to their one year old son, Leo! Wondering how so called “friends” managed to keep a one year old from meeting us sooner? Well, Nelson and Alissa used to live in Somerville, MA before they moved out to Los Angeles while Nelson attended Sci-Arc. They stayed out there a little longer after Nelson took a job at Ripbang Studios in Venice, CA. I’m not quite sure what made the two move back to the east coast, but I don’t think it was because they needed any help with Leo. That kid was walking, “talking”, and navigating over rough terrain like a pro all by himself. I might also add that his table manners were equally as impressive, so long as he had a waterglass to stick his fist into and marvel at his stubby little fingers below the water line. Welcome home Nelson and Alissa. It’s good to have you back.

Check out the Photos from this trip

Sean, warming up with a cup of Jim Beam at the Carter Notch Hut.On January 21st and 22nd I went on a winter backpacking excursion with Jeff Soriano, Sean Lawless and my brother Jim. Jim and I have been honing our sighted guide hiking skills since he lost his eyesight just over a year ago, and this would be our first 4000+ footer and overnight backpacking trip.

In retrospect, I’d have to say that everything went well and we all had a lot of fun. If I were posting this story from the field (which I technically have the ability to do), the headline would probably read SOS! (more…)

Check out the Photos from this annual event

Hans gets out of his high chair. In acknowledgment of our individual family obligations on Thanksgiving Day every year, my great friend Hans Winkel created an annual event that takes place on the Friday after Thanksgiving that is reserved for the kids that are near and dear to us. Despite having attended almost 10 of these events, the clan has never officially found a name for this holiday of holidays. (more…)

Gregg Moore and Catherine Soltis Wed

Monday, October 17th, 2005

Nancy and sadeckiThis weekend, I had the honor and privilege of participating in my good friend Gregg Moore’s wedding in New York City. As Gregg is already aware, we have come to love Catherine and still can’t understand how he managed to convince a woman so lovely to marry him. I feel obligated to write something incredibly sappy and inspirational here, but I’ll probably just direct you to my wife’s entry in your wedding book. She is soooo much better at that than I. I would also like to thank Catherine’s parents, the Soltis’ and the Moore’s for throwing one of the most extraordinary parties I have ever had the opportunity to attend. If you didn’t get a chance to go, or are having problems remembering what went down, I have posted some pictures of this momentous event.

Rusty’s Bivouac

Saturday, October 1st, 2005

So, this is so much fun. After bagging my first cache on South Peak, Sean and I headed over to the summit of Moosilauke for cache number 2: Rusty’s Bivouac

I’m addicted. Cache 2 was quite a challenge as well. However, after decrypting the clue Sean and I successfully found Rusty’s Bivouac, only after finding someone else’s lavatory of convenience. Here, Sean and I found more travel bugs. After vowing to become an avid GeoCacher, sean took a travel bug from this cache with intentions of finding a new home for it in his home state of Connecticut.

Sean and I had a blast on this trip and here are the photos to prove it. CAUTION to fellow GeoCachers, there are spoilers in these photos.
